Stem cells: Will not kill off the community...

(The Deaf can do this by themselves).......It rumbles on like some top-heavy lorry down a very small hill.   However this newspaper article has again, like 2 recent such articles concerning the UK deaf communities re Paralympics and now hearing Gerbils, led to criticisms of the 'Deaf' way.  It must be the deaf silly season again.    Pushing deaf culture via its extreme bias end is not helping.  What seems pretty clear is the 'awareness' these articles try to raise for deaf people, only tend to attract very searching questions as to how the deaf are behaving, and how their attitudes appear very negative.  Do they hate integration or what ?

They were certainly slated for their attitude to the paralympics and now comment seems negative at them for using social media to attack stem cell search, apparently not many were aware there is a 'Deaf' hard-core who attack anything related to research, education, or access that has an oral or spoken or a written basis.  These attitudes have far from raised positive deaf awareness but raised questions on their dedications to equality or access, which seems to be only on their terms and no-one else's.  It is the day of the minorities, sadly, a number on the deaf side are getting out of control.

Using deafness as an 'excuse' to demand an deaflympics, and relentless arguments on social-medical arguments insisting disability has nothing to do with them, has not helped unity of view, not least because the debate is obscure.  The deaf obsessions with capital letters only seeks to confuse those outside the community, and create divisions inside it..  One wonders how long what remains of the community is going to tolerate these advocates of isolation in the name of culture ? and far from pursuing the credo "Deaf can do everything except hear.." the UK deaf used deafness as an opt out to deaf sporting participation at the main arena deaf would get the most profile, most awareness, and most sporting participation.

An commentator at an text/BBC site encapsulated what we mean, the writer stated "Why are non-signing and oral deaf allowed to participate in deaflympics OR paralympics Or the main Olympics ?" Unless we zero these fools it is irretrievably damaging what others see as deaf awareness and a deaf culture.  They bring us all down with them. 1,000s of Olympians and Paralympians, using 100s of different languages, coming from many many differing cultures, competed on a level playing field together, deaf claimed exemptions and special case, and worse deafness and language prevented them, and it  WAS a serious disability that made them that special case.

Confused ?  join the rest of the world  Signers took part in both Olympics and had visual access starts...  the total lack of a coherent message or stance from deaf people is going to send them further into isolation, and they want to ensure no cure emerges as well....  I'm guessing when the UK finally realises it is out of the running with world deaflympics and the USA takes it over, the die will be cast.  We noticed no comment at all has emerged from the USA regarding UK deaf sport asking for access to the paralympics.  No wonder given they have NO INTENTION of participating.  USA knows it, so do we.
