UK deaf population to rise 45%

Deaf clubs will be crowded, assuming they re-open them again....  DEAFNESS is a hidden disability that does not always receive the attention it deserves.  There are over 10 million people in the UK with clinically significant hearing loss – nearly one in six of the population.

The number of deaf adults in the UK is increasing with an ageing population, with more than 14.5 million estimated by 2031. There are over 45,000 deaf children and young people and about 840 children are born deaf every year, with a significant number of others deafened due to illness such as meningitis, or injury.

These statistics are important as they highlight the huge and unseen impact on individuals and society.

Yet the hearing technologies we have today can revolutionise the lives of deaf people, if they are given access to them and helped to use them effectively.
