Tinnitus to reach epidemic levels..

A "major public health challenge" as festival-mad Brits ignore advice on protecting their ears.

People with tinnitus may start hearing a "ringing in the ears" sensation which is no longer a problem just for the old. A study of 170 Brazilian teens who went to parties found that over a half were already experiencing tinnitus.  Nic Wray from the British Tinnitus Association (BTA) confirmed the study is concerning.

She said: “The Brazilian study has been presented at international conferences and published in a peer reviewed journal. "This means that the study results are likely to be robust and reliable.”  Many people who suffer from tinnitus have to accept that they may never hear silence again.  Famous people who have suffered from tinnitus include Will.i.am, Eric Clapton, Phil Collins, and Noel and Liam Gallagher.

Coldplay’s Chris Martin revealed that the condition almost ended his music career.  He said: “Looking after your ears is unfortunately something you don't think about until there's a problem.”
